Programming Manager

About the Lot 6 Project

The City of Calgary and the Calgary Downtown Association (CDA) are developing a vibrant new outdoor venue on Lot 6. Nestled along the river and near the commercial district, Lot 6 will offer amenities for residents, workers, and visitors, including a possible dog park, events with DJs and live music, as well as a bar, restaurant, café, and/or ice cream shop.

2024 Pilot Edition

  • Dates: August 29th to September 30th
  • Hours: Thursday to Saturday, 12 PM to 11 PM
  • Events: 3 per week

CONDITIONS

  • Start Time: July 15th
  • End Time: October 4th
  • Salary: $25 – $40/hour depending on experience
  • Position: 40h / week 

JOB SUMMARY

In collaboration with Aire Commune, the City of Calgary, CDA, and Belleville Placemaking, the Programming Manager will oversee the programming of events at Lot 6, including booking live music, DJs, and other entertainment to ensure a diverse and engaging schedule. We are looking for someone that will manage relationships with artists, agents, vendors and will do the follow up with the stage manager to take care of the technical requirements of the programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in drafting the programming strategy for the space
  • Act as the point of contact within the venue and events team for all matters relating to event programming
  • Approach programming partners for each event and ensure the necessary follow-up before, during and after each event
  • Manage and monitor the programming budget
  • Report weekly to the producer and during team meetings on the status of upcoming events

KEY SKILLS

  • Strong network within the local entertainment industry
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Project management skills (Excel, emails, meetings, etc.)

EXPERIENCES

  • Experience in event programming and booking
  • Knowledge of current local trends in music and entertainment
  • Good knowledge of the Calgary event industry 
  • Candidates must have a laptop computer and a cell phone that can be contacted throughout the duration of the pilot
