Metcalfe Plaza
With Metcalfe Plaza, Aire commune transformed a vacant lot in downtown Ottawa into a vibrant cultural hub at the heart of the capital’s urban revitalization. Presented by the Downtown Ottawa BIA in collaboration with Amashowza (Ottawa), Metcalfe Plaza redefined urban activation in Ottawa in 2025.
Designed as a vibrant space from morning to night, the site hosts a sustained program combining music, art, sports, and local cuisine. During the day, the space is a place for work and outdoor physical activities. In the evening, it transforms into a vibrant destination with DJ sets, performances, and a strong cultural program.
Designed as a pilot project under the City of Ottawa’s Nightlife Economy Action Plan, Metcalfe Plaza illustrates Aire commune’s ability to reinvent underutilized spaces and stimulate downtown vitality through accessible and unifying cultural initiatives.
